It's because the men that get divorced are probably normal, decent people that can get into a relationship quite easily and quickly. Whereas the women are probably ugly, nasty, snake with tits bunny boilers.

Men tend to marry women a couple of years younger than them and are starting to die off at the top end (or to be accurate, a couple of years above the top end. I'm guessing this explains most, if not all, the statistic.
I can't be bothered to work it through, though.

How does the maths work?
I mean if people get divorced, both parties are divorced.
If one woman remains single then on a macro level doesn't it mean an extra man is also single.
Or is it that men in that age bracket get together with women younger than 42 leaving women in that 42 to 55 age bracket single?
PS, I'm 41 and getting divorced,,, result!
